The March edition of Our State Magazine EATS section featured a three page article on Fried Chicken Champ Sand Hill Kitchen starting with a full page photo of our delicious Fried Chicken Sandwich. It was followed by a story of how Chef Jamie Wade has made SHK one of the favorite eateries in Asheville for heart breakfast dishes that will get your day off to a great start, and an even heartier lunch with multiple choices of sandwiches, salads, and sweets to carry you through the rest of the day. There is even a photo of a recipe card handwritten by Jamie's grandmother for banana pudding, which has always been a family favorite. Operating out of a gas station kitchen located in the Candler/Enka area on the corner of Sand Hill and Sardis Roads, SHK has become a neighborhood favorite, managing to stay open throughout the pandemic thanks to the drive up window and the loyal support of customers from throughout the area. In the article, Chef Jamie said “I wanted to be a part of this community. I feel very lucky that they support us the way that they do.”

Needless to say as a small independent restaurant, we at Sand Hill Kitchen have had our challenges over the past few months as all of our staff, like you, have been dealing with Covid-19. We are happy to say that your support has helped us weather the storm and we are slowly working our way back toward being open full time. For now, you are keeping us busy when we are open by ordering take out and picking it up at our drive up window. We have used this time to test some new entrees, and to ramp up our desserts since we have a talented baker on staff.
We look forward to the year ahead as life hopefully settles down a bit, and we have the time and energy to reflect on what we have experienced and lessons we have learned. Meanwhile, we will continue to provide you with good food made with love and wish the best to all of you, our loyal customers. And we offer this reminder to follow the 3 Ws, WAIT 6 feet apart, WEAR your mask, and WASH those hands often to help us all to safely recover from this pandemic! |
